Pediatric Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on therapy using light touch (like a nickel's weight) to release tension in the brain, spinal cord, and surrounding membranes (the craniosacral system) to improve the body's natural healing, support nervous system function, and relieve issues like colic, feeding problems, sleep disturbances, and effects from birth trauma in babies and children. Therapists gently palpate the skull, spine, and sacrum to find restrictions and promote fluid flow, helping with conditions from tongue ties to developmental delays.
How it works
Gentle touch: Practitioners use very light pressure on the head, neck, spine, and pelvis.
Rhythm assessment: They feel for the craniosacral rhythm, a subtle pulse of fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord, to find areas of restriction or imbalance.
Releasing tension: Gentle manipulations aim to release tension in the connective tissues (fascia) and improve the flow of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).
Common conditions addressed
Feeding & latching issues: Helps with tongue ties, oral restrictions, and poor feeding.
Birth trauma: Eases discomfort from difficult deliveries (forceps, vacuum, C-section).
Flat & Bulging Head issues arrising from positioning, birth, or in-utero.
Digestive issues: Relieves colic, gas, and acid reflux.
Sleep problems: Improves sleep patterns.
Motor skills: Helps with torticollis (neck stiffness) and motor coordination.
Behavioral & developmental: Can support children with learning disabilities, developmental delays, and sensory issues.
What to expect in a session
Infants often lie fully clothed on a table or in a parent's arms.
Sessions are very gentle; babies often relax, feed, or sleep through them.
Parents receive guidance on supportive touch.

CranioSacral Therapy vs Chiropractic Care

Somatic dysfunctions of babies head, neck, spine and pelvis
can result from development in utero, birth trauma, or even post-birth positioning. While Chiropractors release bone-on-bone restrictions to
align the spine and cranial base, CranioSacral Therapists
use bones as handles to gently release soft tissue strain patterns throughout the body and within the head itself. This unwinds and aligns tissues within the cranium and face to help decompress cranial deformity (flat or bulging head), and promote facial symmetry. It also helps align the upper pallate and jaw for more successful latching.
